Optic Neuritis
Well, I went back to the eye doctor the other day.
I was diagnosed with Optic Neuritis. My color perception is decreased, my actual vision has increased slightly. Optic Neuritis is common in people who have Multiple Sclerosis...I'm in the middle phase of ON now...the whole thing takes about 9 weeks...starts out bad for 3 weeks (which it was), then the middle stage where it levels off, and then the end results usually...how my vision is going to stay for a while. He wasn't able to see it before, that's why he had me come back, and now I have it. I asked him if it was wise for my former neurologist to have me wait 3 months to have another MRI...he goes "um..did he know you couldn't see?!" I said "yup....". He said absolutely not, I need treatment now to slow the progress of my eye sight getting worse and I need injections of prednisone about 3 times a week for a few weeks...I'm going up to Syracuse so I can get those now, and I'll probably have a lumbar puncture, too (spinal tap). Wheeeeee.... :(
Well, at least my 2 new doctors are helping me and were disgusted that my old neurologist wanted me to wait 3 months...I thought there was something ridiuculous about that...I had all my files transferred to my new doctor...I think things are going to get better now that I have good doctors, instead of the morons I had jerking me around for 3 years, assuring me I didn't have MS. My new primary care physican even asked me the same thing my eye doctor did...they couldn't believe he wanted me to wait 3 months, on top of the 3-4 years of symptoms I've had. Gyah. I swear to god. If I had gotten dignosed 3 years ago, my vision probably woudln't be so bad because I would have had treatment early on in the stages it takes. Bah. Freaking doctors.
Well, how wonderful. Now I have blurred vision in my left eye, reds look pink to me now. I can't read an eye chart. You know, I know things could be a lot worse, but it would be better now if doctors would have looked at my history of symptoms and said something about the lesion "he thought he saw" three years ago in my brain.
ah well, bye for now.
